A canal lining machine travels along the canal on rail or rubber-tyred bogies, carrying a gantry frame that spans the channel section. The machine receives concrete, distributes it across the designed profile and finishes the surface while moving forward continuously.
Key stages:
- Subgrade preparation — trimming the formation to the design shape and checking compaction.
- Concrete delivery — feeding the hopper from truck mixers or a distributor conveyor.
- Placing and vibration — spreading and compacting concrete across the section.
- Finishing — achieving the specified surface tolerance and smoothness.
- Joint cutting — forming controlled contraction joints to manage cracking.
- Curing — protecting the fresh lining against rapid moisture loss.
Because all stages run from one travelling machine, output per shift is far higher than manual methods and the finished profile stays consistent along the whole reach.
